Starting with Visual Studio 2022, Visual Studio no longer includes .NET Framework components for .NET Framework 4.0 - 4.5.1 because these versions are no longer supported. Visual Studio 2022 and later versions can't build apps that target .NET Framework 4.0 through .NET Framework 4.5.1. To continue building these apps, you can use Visual Studio 2019 or an earlier version.
The developer pack for .NET Framework 4.5.1 or 4.5.2, the targeting pack for .NET Framework 4.6, and the developer pack for .NET Framework 4.6.1, 4.6.2, 4.7, 4.7.1, 4.7.2, or 4.8 provides a particular .NET Framework's version of the reference assemblies, language packs, and IntelliSense files for use in an integrated development environment such as Visual Studio. If you're using Visual Studio, the developer pack or targeting pack also adds the installed version of .NET Framework to the target choices when you create a new project. Choose one of the following:
Release 4.5.1 Orchestrators, Gateways, and Hub Edges support all previous VMware SD-WAN Edge versions greater than or equal to Release 3.2.0 Note: this means releases prior to 3.2.0 are not supported.
Note: The above table is only valid for customers using SD-WAN services. Customers requiring access to VMware Cloud Web Security or VMware Secure Access need their Edges upgraded to either Release 4.5.0 or 4.5.1.
Due to infrastructure changes in the Orchestrator beginning in Release 4.0.0, any Orchestrator using a 3.x Release needs to be first upgraded to 4.0.0 prior to being upgraded to 4.5.1. Orchestrators using Release 4.0.0 or later can be upgraded to Release 4.5.1. Thus, the upgrade paths for the Orchestrator are as follows:
A site where a pair of Edges are deployed in a High-Availability topology may encounter an issue where the Standby Edge reboots one or more times to resolve an Active-Active state. The Standby Edge reboot(s) can cause a disruption of customer traffic with the impact greater on sites using an Enhanced HA topology as the Standby Edge also passes customer traffic. The issue is being tracked by Issue #85369, which is fixed in the 1st rollup build for Release 4.5.1: R451-20220701-GA. The issue is tracked under the Edge/Gateway Resolved Issues section for R451-20220701-GA in these Release Notes and it is strongly recommended that customers with HA sites upgrade their Edges to R451-20220701-GA.
The Edge's Deep Packet Inspection (DPI) engine is misclassifying the SCCM application packets as BITS traffic and if there are Business Policy or Firewall Rules designed to steer that traffic or ensure that traffic is allowed by Firewall rules, the misclassification my result in SCCM traffic being blocked with a resulting disruption to the customer. The remediation for this issue involved amending the default 4.5.1 and later application maps to ensure that this misclassification is prevented.
This can be disruptive for customers who rely on Business or Firewall Policies for routing and prioritizing Office 365 / Microsoft 365 traffic only to have that traffic classified as Tencent Meeting and thus hitting a completely different rule. Issued is traced to incorrect application map subnets for Tencent that are corrected for the 4.5.1 default application map. A customer not using 4.5.1 can have this corrected by an Operator who edits their application map through the Orchestrator Application Map Editor to correct the Tencent subnets.
If this failure occurs, the Operator would see the X710 SR-IOV interfaces removed from DPDK and not seen when running debug.py --dpdk_ports_d. In addition, /opt/vc/etc/dpdk.json does not display the SR-IOV interfaces. Deploying a Gateway to the 4.5.1 Release ensures this issue would not be encountered.
This issue is not encountered when upgrading either component to Release 4.5.1. However should an Operator upgrade an Orchestrator or Gateway to a Release without the fix, the Operator would need to upgrade the FIPS modules manually.
Note: In editions of the 4.5.1 Release Notes up to 08-22-2022, this issue was listed as a known issue. This was not correct as the fix for #86808 was included in the original GA build for Release 4.5.1 and the issue has never been present in any Release 4.5.1 build.
Orchestrator version R451-20220831-GA was released on 09-06-2022 and is the updated 3rd Orchestrator rollup build for Release 4.5.1. This build replaces the original 3rd rollup build R451-20220810-GA, which was released on 08-11-2022. R451-20220831-GA adds no new fixed issues over R451-20220810-GA but does include performance and troubleshooting changes required by VMware Engineering.
Interface term translations are improved in the 4.5.1 Orchestrator. These improvements are derived from customer feedback and result in an overall improved user interface translation for global customers.
Note: A 6x0 Edge's Firmware including PIC version can be determined on an Orchestrator using 5.x by going to the Monitor > Edge > Overview page for that Edge and clicking the dropdown information box next to the Edge name which includes the Edge Information, Device Version, and the Device Firmware. However this only works on an Edge using Release 4.5.1. 2b1af7f3a8
