Catalog Description: (2 units) Discrete-time signal processing: Transforms, filters, and time-frequency transforms. Discrete-time signal processing: Discrete analog to digital converter, data acquisition, signal sampling, digitizers.
Discrete-time signal processing involves the study of the representation of signals in the time and frequency domains. It includes the representation, conversion, and analysis of time-varying data. The aim is to develop an understanding of the underlying structure and properties of these data. Discrete-time signal processing is the basis of radio and television broadcasting, radar, voice communication, sonar, biomedical engineering, telecommunications, and other areas. The book is aimed at engineers and scientists who need to understand the concepts of discrete-time signal processing and who are looking for a self-contained introduction. Attention is paid throughout to the underlying theory as well as the mathematics; we aim to provide a comprehensive understanding of the principles of signal processing.
Special emphasis is placed on the mathematical foundations of processing, such as sampling, time-scale analysis, time-frequency analysis, and convolution.
W. W. Peterson has taught at Columbia University since 1976, where he was the William F. Milton Chair in Applied Mathematics. He is currently a professor of Applied Mathematics at Columbia. He was awarded the Ira A. Richards Medal in Applied Mathematics from the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics in 1988, for his pioneering work on signal processing. He is a Fellow of the IEEE and SPIE. A related book, Data Analysis for Scientists and Engineers: A Topological Approach (with D. Buck,) is a standard text in the area.
In addition to the above, MSE will offer the following security enhancements:
Real time protection: The new antivirus engine is based on signature-less technology, but is said to be highly optimized.
Sandbox protection: Windows Security Essentials includes the Heap Protection feature, which allows it to quarantine the memory of any process or program that shows suspicious activity.
Behavior monitoring: Microsoft Security Essentials will monitor changes made by applications and changes made by hackers and show problems.
Protection from phishing: MSE will use a dual-level system to detect phishing attacks, be they email and web-based.
Updates: Microsoft Security Essentials will be updated regularly for new malware, and the protection it offers will be updated daily.
The beta version of MSE comes as a download utility for Windows XP, Vista, Windows 7 and Windows Server 2003 and 2008, but not for Windows ME, 2000 and Windows 2000. It seems Microsoft is serious about not having a security product for those operating systems (unless of course they want to sell them an add-on). 827ec27edc
