During his fellowship training, he also had the opportunity to work with joint replacement specialists learning the newest techniques in shoulder, knee, and hip replacement surgery, including anterior hip replacement. He was also trained in joint preservation procedures using hip arthroscopy as well as robotic-assisted knee replacement using Mako® technology. Similar to the knee, treatment of OCD lesions of the elbow depends on the fact that the physis is open or closed, the stability of the lesion, and the age of the patient. OCD lesions of the elbow in pediatric patients may have a slightly higher risk of progressing to surgery compared to the knee or ankle [26]. The cornerstone of nonsurgical treatment is rest from activity and has been shown to be very effective for stable lesions when the growth plate remains open and the patient has not started to lose motion. However, even with appropriate rest, some patients with stable lesions may progress on to needing surgery [27, 28]. Surgical management is typically recommended for unstable lesions, and older patients with closed physis are more likely to benefit from surgical intervention [27].
"The text covers all major areas of the knee in excellent detail...There is not much more a reviewer could ask for from a knee surgery textbook in the new millennium." - Current Surgery, review of 4th edition "I believe this textbook will clearly find its place as the authoritative text on disorders of the knee." - Journal of Bone & Joint Surgery 2006, review of 4th edition"Since its first edition, this book has been the go-to reference for surgery of the knee. It has always been different than most books in that it covers all aspects of the knee, not just sports-related or total joint arthroplasty. 'Since its first edition, this book has been the go-to reference for surgery of the knee. It has always been different than most books in that it covers all aspects of the knee, not just sports-related or total joint arthroplasty. We should all thank Dr. Scott for bringing together an impressive group of leaders in the field to once again create the single most important reference on surgery of the knee. This update should be in every orthopedic library. I, for one, am excited that I will be able to access mine on my computer and iPad wherever I go, without having to carrying the 1,400-page book around.' - Mark Hutchinson, MD University of Illinois at Chicago College of Medicine (Doody 5 star rating)"Since its first edition, this book has been the go-to reference for surgery of the knee.
