Considering Bandai has the majority of the licenses to Gundam in the US, I'm kind of surprised they'd allow the release of a movie like Zeta Gundam in the US, and with the English dub, it's even more of a surprise. I think Zeta Gundam is one of the best Gundam series, so I'm really saddened that we won't see it on DVD in the US.
Bandai has the Gundam CD-Rom games, and they could release full length anime on there too. I think Sunrise would be more open to this, especially since Bandai owns the rights to Gundam video games, so I think a full length Gundam anime on CD-Rom could be released in the US.
Bandai's also done the same with their two Gundam anime in the US, the Gundam 0080 movie will be released on DVD for $39.95, so that alone would make it another $100-200, that's way too much for a movie that's only about an hour long and just has a few CG scenes.
I'm not sure if Bandai's decision was influenced by other companies releasing their remakes of older Gundam series, like the Zeta Gundam and AGE movie, but it's understandable why Bandai could be influenced by these.
I am glad that Gundam anime series are being aired overseas in English now. I think the Gundam anime series that were aired in the past were being aired in Japanese only. I think this is the reason why people in the US are not enjoying the Gundam anime series that was aired in the past.
Personally, I'd love to see Bandai release the classic 80s anime in the US. So many of us missed out on them on VHS in the 80s. I mean, I don't really care if it's the original anime or an English dub, but I think Bandai should do it, for a start, and see how it goes.
I think Bandai has really missed a trick here. In the UK, we're lucky to get the classic series in DVD, but each with a new packaging. Obviously Bandai isn't going to release that many new volumes so many of us would never get to see our favourite series in the UK. There are also few subtitled dubs. I mean, you can import Gundam 00, but in two volumes!?
