During acceleration, the system adjusts the amount of pressurized air, referred to as EGR. Air travels through a pipe to a turbine, which is integrated into the valve cover. At low speeds the turbine acts as an air compressor, forcing more air into the intake manifold. At higher speeds the turbine turns backwards, compressing the turbine to a smaller size, and reducing the amount of air. Therefore, the higher the engine speed, the more EGR. This system reduces nitrogen oxide emissions, odors, and noise caused by combustion and re-circulates some fuel to the intake manifold to cooler the combustion process.
The CR-V also features Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA), which provides an additional measure of collision safety with active pre-collision braking and automatic post-collision braking. The brake pedal does not have to be depressed by the driver, or have been depressed by the driver.
The Vehicle Stability Assist system utilizes both the brake pedal and accelerator/ brake paddle to detect a potential crash situation.
